New Domain. New Design. Same Blog.

March 4, 2010, Posted by junezach at 3:37 am

Change is beautiful. As they said, the only permanent thing in this world is change.

It’s now official. I welcome you to the all new Fledgling Blogger!

What are the major changes?

First of all, I bought my own domain this time- junezach.com and I am now paying for the hosting of this site. It was great to have free hosting with Keith and Kraye’s account. These two wonderful people helped me when I was still starting to set up a blog. I am very much thankful for their support and generosity!

:D

This might hurt my SEO for awhile but this is the best thing to do in order for me to grow in my blogging life. Hopefully my blog could quickly cope up with the traffic and rankings the soonest time.

Secondly, I have a new template that is much cooler, more neat and dynamic compared to the old one (in my opinion, what do you think? LOL). It took me more than one day to migrate everything. It was like setting up a whole new blog -from installing the newest version of Wordpress, importing the data, setting up the plugins and widgets, designing the new template and configuring its tools and so many more. I encountered troubles along the way but gladly was able to fix them. Whew!It was really worth it!

;)

What are the latest stuffs here?

  • A featured content gallery is now available at first look.
  • You can now subscribe through email from this blog using FeedBurner. You can find it in the top right portion below the categories menu bar.
  • You can now check my latest twits from my Tweeter account at the leftmost bottom part of the page.
  • At the rightmost bottom part, you can view a photo stream from my Flickr account.

I hope you’ll enjoy the all new Fledgling Blogger! :D

    Blue…I see lots of blue. Change is kinda fun. I know what you mean about moving things over. I recently changed all 3 of blogs with new templates and it takes lots of time to move things around, make sure you’re not losing anything like codes from widgets or lists etc. I kept reviewing templates eliminating ones I didn’t like or thought wouldn’t work with my content until I got it down to a couple. Did that over a period of a couple of weeks. Then finally made my selection and have still done a tweek or two with more ideas in mind. It’s fun.

    I like your static pages across the top and just added my first one (not to traveling suitcase, but to Bridge and Beyond). I’m working on this slowly.

    Thanks for the feature spot, appreciate it. When you did that the other day, along with your note of interest in the contest I added you to the list; though you still need to make some comments to complete the process.

    It will also give us a chance to see if changing your domain will make your name clickable to here from a comment you make on someone else’s blog. More than just my site, I would think this would hurt your chances of people returning to your blog to read and comment if you’ve read and commented on their blogs. What I think is common place for those of us who return all comments is, you read the comment on your blog and then you click on the name in order to go to that person’s blog. I leave tons of comments and while I know I don’t get anywhere near the number of return comments; I do think that’s the norm. So, if you leave a comment and people go to your other blog, you’re loosing out.

    I have my twitter thing on my blogs too, but truthfully don’t twit much. I prefer blogging. The short blurbs on twitter sometimes seem less personal to me. Likewise with broadcasts on blog catalog, or blurps on facebook where I’ve just in the last couple of days joined.

    In your looking around, have you come across a good, easy to use and accurate top commentors widget? I had one for awhile, but it didn’t seem accurate. I want to be able to visit and return to those pages and give them linky love. Thoughts? I know it takes more time to read and comment then to drop and so would like to do this to show my appreciation.

    Wow….this is a long comment. Wordy this am.

    I like the new look. You’ve been very busy. I’m sorry if I haven’t been around but I’ve changed some things of my own and a few of my favorite sites got lost in the shuffle. I’ve subscribed now though so I won’t miss anything else.

    @Hitesh
    Thanks for always checking my blog. It’s real good that you seem to be back now in dropping and blogging. :)

    @Sandy
    I much appreciate your lengthy comment. You really had a mouthful. Hehehe!
    Thank you for liking the new things with my blog.
    With regard to the top commenters plugin, I have not found one yet. Will sure to inform once I can see one that is effective to use.

    By the way, I will soon create a post about your 100th post contest. ;)

    @Dave
    Probably it might have been a browser issue because when I did a test, it was just fine. Other bloggers were able to place a comment successfully as well. Your comment appeared twice actually. Anyways, your visits has always been a pleasure and a big thanks for the concern. It is highly appreciated.

    @ann
    Thank you! Yes. I’ve been busy lately because of the changes with my blog but I am now back. So you can now expect my comments again in your wonderful blog. In fact, I already commented on your two latest posts.

    @Comedy Plus
    Thanks for loving the new look of Fledgling Blogger. You have a great and relaxing weekend! :D

    @Mikes
    So you thought you are on the wrong page? Hehehe! Thank you Mikes and I also like your new template. Change is indeed beautiful, isn’t it?

    @VanillaSeven
    Ohhh… thank you a bunch! ^_^

    @Bella
    A big thanks and I wish you all the best too! :)

    @Marg
    Congratulations too for winning the top prize in EZGreatLife and Stocks On Wall Street contest! I was indeed surprised by John’s special mention in his blog.
    Thanks a lot for subscribing via email and I always look forward to a wonderful friendship. You too have a nice weekend!

    Good job for making the move.

    If you want to keep your old blog’s status in the Search Engines’ eyes, you can do 301 redirects from your old domain to the new one. I highly suggest that you also use the “Change of address” feature of the Google Webmaster Tools.

    More power!

  12. junezach says:

    @ StarMars

    Thanks for the suggestion on 301 redirect. It sounds effective. The only thing would be I do not know how long my old subdomain (because it was a subdomain of my friend’s domain khrye.com) will exist. Hehehe!

    Haven’t tried Google Webmaster Tools yet. But I am familiar with it. I do appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

    Have a relaxing weekend my friend! :D
