The Hurt Locker wins Best Picture & Best Director @The Oscars 2010
The 82nd Annual Academy Awards® was concluded Sunday evening (March 7, 2010) proclaiming The Hurt Locker as Best Motion Picture of the Year and its director Kathryn Bigelow as Best Director that makes her the first female director to win the prestigious award. She won over her ex-husband James Cameron. The war-drama film bested its big competitor Avatar by winning a total of 6 awards. Aside from the 2 mentioned are Best Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Editing, Best Achievement in Sound Mixing and Best in Sound Editing. The juggernaut Avatar took home the Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Art Direction and Best Achievement in Visual Effects. This clearly states that majority of the people always vote for the realistic films over the sci-fi genre in the Best Picture race.
For the acting awards, this year was a bit predictable as Sandra Bullock was named Best Actress for the movie The Blind Side. Jeff Bridges grabbed Best Actor for the melodrama Crazy Heart. Christoph Waltz received the trophy for Best Supporting Actor for his superb performance in the film Inglourious Basterds while Monique was given the Best Supporting Actress award for her undeniably strong acting prowess in the intense drama Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.

I thought about you this morning Junezach because I remember when you talked about this movie, The Hurt Locker, and how much you wanted to see it. So good pick on your part not that you said it would win, but you were very interested in it. Have a great week.
Not a movie goer, so no.
Having trouble getting your new link listed properly in my linky love. For some reason when I do a cut and paste of your new url it does not come to this page, but rather a very plain small white page with a feed where I can see what you’ve posted; but not your blog.
Is it because of your settings? Something with your domain? In order to get here I had to click a 2nd time on the title of your blog on the plain white page.
Please scroll down to my linky love and click on yourself and see what I mean.
And don’t forget to complete your option for the contest you need to comment on one of the 15 recent posts.
More opportunities with each additional post.
Happy Monday
Sandy
I’m not a big follower of this kind of stuff but since I read your blog I don’t have to be, I get all my info here
Hi June!
Sandra truly deserves her award too.. nyweiz, thanks for linking my blogspot in your famous blog..hihi.. i linked you back sa akong new blog http://techiebohol.com ..i have to fix my blogroll sa blogspot first then will include your blog there too ..
I agree 2009 really was a year of great movies
That will give me another good reason to watch the movie.
Hooray for Hollywood! for a change!!
For once, it wasn’t a bulti-billion dollar movie that won – yay for The Hurt Locker. A brilliant movie borne out of a reporter’s experiences covering allied soldiers in Iraq. It was neither a war movie, nor an anti-war movie, rather an experience of what it is truly like to be a soldier on the front lines. Ms Bigelow honestly deserved her Best Director and Best Picture Oscars.
I’ll say it again – Hooray for Hollywood.
Sally
Although this movie is good because of its storyline, there’s really nothing much to offer other than the story. I’m so disappointed, because I was hoping Avatar will win—-from editing, cinematography, production design and direction—it’s all awesome. And Hurt Locker? Just average, nothing impressive.
Hey , you should mask your blogspot or redirect the mapping to your your blogspot to here on your new domain. It’s very confusing which URL are you in now. Since your old URL is in my cache, everytime I want to open it, it opens the first one—the blogspot and the one at Blogspot is not updated. Are you having two blogs with 2 different URL’s? If not, import your old blog first to your new platform or if it’s the same platform, map it to your new domain and mask the old one.
I haven’t watch the Hurt Locker but from the awards and how much good reviews I read about it, I would really love to go watch it. Oh, and Up In The Air too. There’s showing it real late here in malaysia and I wonder why.
Thank you for your review about this film. Now I must see it. Absolutely, I am a good film watcher, like you…:)
The winners were so predictable this year. Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges and Monique were the favorites anyway, but I wasn’t sure if Sandra would beat Meryl Streep. After all, Meryl is a greater actress with greater roles, and I thought she did a superb job in Julie and Julia. However, I’m glad Sandra won.
I thought Quentin had a shot with best original screenplay.
Sally, what billion dollar movie won? I can think only of Titanic and Lord of the Rings. Usually they don’t take budget into consideration when giving awards….
I’m surprised that Inglorious Basterds didn’t win any awards besides best supporting actor
Hurt locker is a great movie – only slow in some parts, but I enjoyed watching it. It was very realistic.
